Last weekend I bumped into our friend Bruce Bishop at the hardware store. Big deal, you say? Well, not in and of itself…but it gave me a chance to express my disappointment at not being able to attend the Kickstarter open house on Saturday because of a travel conflict. “Come to the ribbon cutting at 8:45 on Friday morning!” he said.
A busy work morning prevented me from witnessing the snip, but I wasn’t too disappointed, having recently witnessed
THIS ribbon cutting, and it might have satisfied my ribbon-cutting needs for a long time to come.
However, I still wanted to enter into the joy of the opening of Newberg’s new bakery, an enterprise Bruce and another friend, Brenda Burg, have worked toward for a long time.
So I walked the few blocks to town to get in on the final moments of the event. On my way there, coworker Eric told me what I had missed: a crowd! Bummer. It was the disappointment every other introvert feels when faced with the prospect of mingling with a lot of people. I snapped this picture at a most opportune time. The usual traffic all but disappeared at the moment I arrived at the light. (Thanks to all who make this moment possible.) That’s the bakery, right next to the park.
Here’s a closer look.
Meet Bruce, co-owner/co-baker!
And my excellent timing provided me with another fun observation opportunity—watching my friend Joel Bock officially photograph Brenda with her entire family; she’s hidden behind a grandkid.
Of Bruce and Brenda together…their joyful faces.
Bottom line: the baked goods, or more aptly called the baked yummies.
Ironically, Mauri and I eat very little bread and other baked yummies these days, given their omission from the Paleo diet. But along with our Kickstarter contribution we’ll enjoy weekly loaves of bread for xx number of months. I imagine we’ll find a way to enjoy them without guilt.
If you’re a Newberger you have surely heard about this bakery. Sorry if my picture got your tastebuds in a dither, because Newberg Bakery isn’t scheduled to open until the middle of next week. We’re all in for a treat!
