Look who made his own breakfast this morning! One might think the poor man is already tired of my cooking, and this could be true. But it was actually a lab. If he has progressed enough in his recovery to look after himself and his dog for three days next week, I could go with my coworkers to this gorgeous setting on the Oregon coast for our annual pastoral team retreat. My heart isn’t set on going, but I’d really like to. Don’t judge me. You saw where we’re going…and I work with some very nice (and fun) people.

So he’s doing his best to get back on his feet. Notice the walker? He isn’t actually walking on his own yet, but considering he’s a mere week and three days out from knee-replacement surgery, I’d say he’s made some mighty good progress.

He went all out (really, it’s what he usually makes himself for breakfast) with a “brown-butter” fried egg, jalapeño bagel, sausage links, and his own home-roasted espresso Americano. The dog looks hopeful, and I am too.
